SANCA’s Gender Based Violence Efforts

SANCA is a non-profit organization that was established in 1956 to address issues related to alcoholism and drug abuse in South Africa. Over the years, the organization has expanded its scope to include services for other forms of addiction, including gambling and sex addiction. In recent years, SANCA has also focused on addressing the link between substance abuse and GBV.

One of the main ways in which SANCA has worked to address GBV is through the provision of counseling and support services for survivors of such violence. The organization operates a number of centers across South Africa that provide counseling, group therapy, and other forms of support for survivors of GBV. These services are available to both men and women, and are provided free of charge.

SANCA has also developed a number of educational programs aimed at raising awareness about the link between substance abuse and GBV. These programs are targeted at both young people and adults, and are designed to educate individuals about the risks associated with substance abuse and the ways in which it can contribute to GBV. The organization also works with other community groups, including schools and churches, to promote awareness and to provide support to survivors.

In addition to these direct support and educational efforts, SANCA has also been involved in advocacy work aimed at addressing the root causes of GBV. This includes advocating for changes in legislation, policies, and practices that contribute to the perpetuation of GBV. SANCA has also worked to promote gender equality and to challenge harmful gender norms that contribute to the prevalence of GBV.

Overall, SANCA has made significant contributions to the fight against GBV in South Africa. Through its counseling and support services, educational programs, and advocacy work, the organization has helped to raise awareness about the link between substance abuse and GBV, and has provided much-needed support to survivors of such violence. While much work remains to be done to address the root causes of GBV in South Africa, organizations like SANCA are making important strides in the right direction.
