Editor’s Note – Second Edition – February – CSI Legacy Awards

The South African CSI Legacy Awards judging was officially completed last week, on February 14, 2023. Please keep in mind that this is the judging procedure for the judges. The public vote is presently underway and will conclude on February 24, 2023.

Having said that, I’d want to thank the judges for their outstanding work and for taking the time to analyze all the applications, as well as the adjudicators who had the difficult job of wading through 45 – 600-word submissions. I appreciate your time, effort, and commitment.

We are quite thankful. For the first time this year, we made the voting platform available to the CSI industry public. We were overwhelmed with this year’s contributions; remember how happy I felt last week when I got the opportunity to assess all the submissions and see them all at once?

That is when we decided to extend the voting to the whole CSI industry audience since the finalists’ contributions were truly outstanding and breathtaking. I must admit that in this public vote, just under 1000 people voted, and I am flabbergasted by the reaction from the CSI industry – unbelievable.

Note that just five categories have gotten just under a thousand votes from the South African CSI industry; this demonstrates unequivocally that the South African CSI Sector is alive and well. That is, these awards have not yet been extensively publicized in the media. As a result, we’d want to thank everyone who voted and will continue to vote.

I must once again congratulate our finalists. For the outstanding job they have done and for supporting so many poor and needy people. “South Africa is alive with possibilities,” says the Brand SA motto. And I’d want to go a step further and say, ‘South Africa is rich with opportunity. The finalists this year covered health care, education, business, women’s empowerment, and eliminating job inequities, and I am thrilled to be able to work in this field.

I want to thank Standard Bank for partnering with the awards.  I want to welcome Coca Cola Beverages South Africa as our beverage partner.

Finally, while discussing the awards with one of the most prominent CSI managers from a parastal, he stated, “Simphiwe, this is the only platform in South Africa where an organisation can be evaluated by a diverse group of CSI Managers – for them to make it on top – it means they would have ducked and dived through the various wishes of the varying CSI managers and to survived the guillotine of these many requirements and achieved the is impressive.

Moreover, it is the only platform that really assists CSI divisions in deciphering the various applications received from non-profits – this has already been done for you – since the beneficiaries have gone through a thorough due diligence process of action by the award organizers. You have therefore completed eighty percent of the CSI department’s job; all they need to do now is collaborate with these winners or finalists, and their success is certain. I appreciated his insight since – it brought clarity to the vision.

We wish the finalists the best of success; we thank our partners; and we look forward to welcoming you to the CSI Industry of South Africa.

Finally, tickets will be available for purchase, but only a limited number will be offered. During the first day of ticket sales, 20 of the remaining 70 tickets were sold. So yet, we only have around 30 tickets.
