We are excited to present the finalists for the Best Woman category at next year’s CSI Legacy Awards: Captain Londy Ngcobo, Colleen Larsen, and Tersia Mdunge. These extraordinary women are making a profound impact through their leadership and innovation, demonstrating the growing influence of women in corporate social investment (CSI).
Tersia Mdunge has spent over two decades driving impactful initiatives in corporate social responsibility, with a particular focus on vulnerable communities. Her project on disaster risk management in special needs schools has improved safety measures in over 400 institutions across six provinces. Working alongside the Department of Basic Education, the National Disaster Management Centre, and Santam, Tersia has introduced tools like the Standard Risk Assessment tool and provided training that ensures schools are better prepared for emergencies. Her leadership has not only enhanced safety but also empowered school communities to embrace proactive change.
Captain Londy Ngcobo is a trailblazer in the maritime sector and a passionate advocate for youth empowerment. As Africa’s first female dredge master and founder of Global Maritime Youth, she is opening doors to careers in the blue economy for disadvantaged youth. Through innovative programmes, she equips participants with skills, mentorship, and career opportunities, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility, even for those with disabilities. Londy’s work is transforming the maritime industry by fostering a new generation of leaders and expanding access to opportunities for marginalised communities.
Colleen Larsen has been a driving force in advancing gender mainstreaming across Africa through her leadership at Business Engage Association NPC. Operating in nine countries and collaborating with over 115 corporates, her organisation promotes gender equity as a core business strategy. Through initiatives like the Gender Mainstreaming Awards and the 30% Club campaign, Business Engage has set benchmarks for inclusive leadership. Colleen’s work proves that gender equity is not just a social imperative but a driver of economic success, inspiring organisations to embed inclusivity into their operational frameworks.
These finalists reflect key trends in CSI today, including the growing role of women in delivering empathy-driven solutions, driving innovation in emerging sectors, and fostering collaboration to create meaningful change. Their work challenges systemic barriers and exemplifies the transformative power of inclusive leadership.
As we celebrate their achievements, let us be inspired to take action in our own communities, supporting efforts that promote equity, innovation, and sustainability for a better future.
