Johannesburg, South Africa – The Sasol Foundation is throwing its weight behind the Siyavula #1MillionMaths challenge, which seeks to help high school learners improve their Maths performance as they prepare for their end-of-the year examinations.
The challenge seeks to get participants to complete at least one million Maths questions collectively on the Siyavula platform in one month.
“This year, more than ever due to the disruptions that have happened as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is important that learners take part in this worthwhile challenge to make sure that they complete their academic year successfully,” said Vusi Cwane, Head of the Sasol Foundation.
“As the Sasol Foundation, we are pleased to endorse this challenge as it offers an opportunity for leaners to interact with our online resources hosted by Siyavula, whilst at the same time refining their Maths and Science skills. The Foundation’s involvement in this campaign is largely driven by our commitment to supporting and enabling access to quality education at all levels and the promotion of excellence in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).”
The Sasol Foundation has been hard at work, together with its partners, to encourage ongoing learning during the country’s national lockdown introduced in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Since the national lockdown came into effect in March, the Sasol Foundation has been involved in initiatives such as the STEM Lockdown Digital School, which providedonline lessons to Grade R to 12 learners, working together with the Department of Education and Africa Teen Geeks. The Foundation also made its catalogue of mathematics, science and technology textbooks available for free online, downloaded or read on the websites of Siyavula, MST Workbooks and Thunderbolt Kids.
The Sasol Foundation has a long-standing relationship with Siyavula to support the #1MillionMaths challenge, which seeks to promote regular practice of Mathematics and Science subjects through an interactive online platform accessible to all learners across the country.
The challenge officially kicked off this week on 1 September and is ideal for even those learners who simply want to catch up on lost work as Siyavula’s online practice platform enables them to track their progress and highlighting where they need to focus their efforts.
