Good day, and welcome to this week’s edition of the Simphiwe Mtetwa Weekly Podcast. I’m thrilled to be back with you, sharing the latest news, reflections, and exciting developments from our world. Every week, we take about 15 minutes to pause, connect, and explore what’s shaping our journeys.
First off, I’m overjoyed to announce that our magazine is finally ready. The finishing touches are being done, and the release is just around the corner—so keep an eye out for that. As always, we begin by centring ourselves with two minutes of mindful reflection—to set the tone for the week ahead. Let’s take this moment together. Ready? Let’s begin.
Now that we’ve grounded ourselves, let’s dive in. This month’s Changemakers Library selection is Why the Rich Are Getting Richer by Robert Kiyosaki. I’ve read nearly all of his books—possibly 16 or 17—and I find them both educational and inspiring. I even spotted a recent advert announcing he’d be in South Africa. Sadly, it turns out he was here just last month, on the 10th and 11th of May—so if you missed it like I did, that’s a bit of a loss. But the wisdom in his books is still there for us.
Another exciting launch this month is our Let’s Be Frank series—raw, honest podcast conversations where industry insiders share their truths. This is a platform for real talk—about challenges, systemic issues, and ideas for change. If you’ve got something to say and want to participate, head over to our LinkedIn page. We’re keeping identities confidential for those who need it, but we’ll always protect the source. It’s important that these stories are told responsibly and constructively—naming, shaming, and shaping the industry for the better.
Also launching this week is our monthly newsletter. If you’re not yet subscribed, visit www.simphiwemtetwa.africa and subscribe via the top-right corner. It contains everything you need to know about what’s happening in our ecosystem.
Most exciting of all—we’re opening registrations for the CSI Legacy Conference. We’re hosting it in Sandton at the Maslow Hotel on 5 July, with an online edition on the 6th. Tickets are currently discounted at R4,980 for the month of June (normally R6,980), so grab yours before the price increase.
As we wrap up, a quick Mandela Day reminder: what are your plans? If you’re not sure how to spend your 67 minutes, why not donate R670? That will fund local youth in Soweto who are doing community work through our projects—an incredible way to give back while also supporting youth employment.
And lastly, our Driven Programme continues with over 50 projects submitted from across the country. We’ve seen entries from Gauteng (31%), Limpopo (22%), Mpumalanga (16.6%), and Western Cape (11.1%). We’re excited to spotlight these grassroots initiatives for corporate partners seeking to make real impact.
That’s all from me this week. Thank you for joining us, thank you for being part of this journey. I’m Simphiwe Mtetwa, signing off—until next week. Don’t forget to follow our work, subscribe, and stay inspired.
